Babymoon and pregnancy travel in the Maldives

Choosing a calm resort, transfers, spa and food questions, and what to check before you travel while pregnant.

A babymoon is a last holiday for two before a baby arrives, and the Maldives suits it well: short walks, calm lagoons, good food and plenty of rest. This guide helps you plan a relaxed stay. It does not give medical advice, so please check with your doctor, your airline and the resort before you book.

Before you book

Ask your doctor whether travel suits you and your pregnancy, and ask your airline about its rules for pregnant passengers. Airlines and resorts may ask for a letter from your doctor. Check that your travel insurance covers pregnancy. We will confirm each resort's own policies for you.

Choosing a calm resort

Look for a resort with an on-island doctor or clinic and a layout that is easy to walk. Beach villas close to the restaurants mean fewer steps, and a villa with shade and a bathtub or pool adds comfort. Our how to choose a Maldives resort guide explains the main differences between islands.

Transfers

Resorts are reached by Speedboat, Seaplane or Domestic flight. When you plan your trip, ask your doctor which kind of transfer suits you. Speedboat rides can be bumpy, and carriers may have their own rules for pregnant passengers.

Before you confirm your booking, check with the resort how long each part of the journey takes. After a Domestic flight there is often a boat ride to the resort, and even seaplanes may land at a platform in the lagoon, with a short boat ride to the island. Our transfers guide explains how each option works.

Spa and relaxation

Many resort spas offer treatments designed for pregnancy. Tell the spa that you are pregnant when you book, and let them suggest suitable treatments. Our spa and wellness guide describes what Maldives spas offer.

Food and gentle days

Resort chefs can adapt dishes when you explain your needs, for example how fish, eggs or cheese are prepared. Tell the restaurant team on arrival. Gentle days might include a stroll on the beach, lagoon swims, a sunset cruise, a private dinner and a babymoon photo session on the beach.
