Maldives Group Trips

Friends, extended families and clubs travelling together: what to plan when it’s more than a couple.

A Maldives trip with friends, an extended family or a club is a very different plan from a holiday for two. This page covers the group side only: rooms, transfers, shared meals and things to do together.

Rooms and villas for a group

  • Room count comes first. Boutique resorts may only have a few villas of each type, so larger resorts are easier for big groups.
  • Mix villa types. Beach and overwater villas can be combined, so each part of the group gets what suits them.
  • Multi-bedroom villas. Some resorts have residences or family villas that sleep several people together.
  • Keep everyone close. Ask for villas in the same area of the island where possible.

Travelling with children? Our family holidays guide covers kids clubs and family villas.

Getting the whole group there

For groups, the transfer type matters more than usual:

  • Speedboat: resorts close to Velana Airport can usually move a whole group together, at any time of day.
  • Seaplane: seaplanes are small and fly in daylight, so a big group may travel in several flights.
  • Domestic flight: seats can be blocked for the group, followed by a short boat ride to the resort.

See the transfers guide for how each one works.

Things to do together

  • Sunset cruises on a traditional dhoni
  • Snorkelling and diving trips for the whole group
  • Private beach barbecues and group dinners
  • Beach games and friendly water-sports challenges
  • Sandbank picnics for smaller groups (see our sandbanks and picnic islands guide)
  • A Bodu Beru drumming night

Meals and meal plans

For groups, all-inclusive or full-board plans keep things simple, because nobody has to settle bills at every meal. Resorts can often reserve tables or a private area for the group’s dinners.

Hand-picked resorts that suit bigger groups

Villa Park and Villa Nautica are among the largest resorts we work with. Bandos, Sun Siyam Olhuveli and Kandima also handle groups well. Room numbers and availability are confirmed when you enquire.

Frequently asked questions

Which Maldives resorts are best for big groups?

Larger resorts with many villas, such as Villa Park and Villa Nautica, are the easiest. Speedboat resorts near the airport also make group arrivals simpler.

Can a group stay in the same area of the resort?

Often, yes. Ask when you enquire and we will request villas close together where the resort can arrange it.

Can a large group take a seaplane together?

Seaplanes are small, so large groups usually travel in several flights. Speedboat resorts can usually move everyone at once.

Is all-inclusive a good idea for groups?

It often is, because meals and drinks are covered and nobody has to split bills. We can compare meal plans for you.

Can you arrange group activities?

Yes. Resorts can arrange dhoni cruises, snorkelling trips, beach dinners and games for groups.
