Island Buyouts and Private Events

Have a whole island to yourselves, or plan a private dinner, cruise or sandbank event for your group.

For some groups, the best plan is to have the island to themselves. For others, it is one special event during the stay. This page covers both.

Island buyouts

A buyout means your group books every room, so the resort is yours alone. It works best at smaller resorts, where the number of villas matches your group.

  • Total privacy. Only your guests and the resort team are on the island.
  • Your own programme. Meals, activities and events can be planned around your group.
  • Partial buyouts. Some resorts can reserve one island or one area. Sun Siyam Olhuveli, for example, spans more than one island.

Buyouts depend on availability and need planning well ahead. Tell us your group size and we will check which hand-picked resorts can offer one.

Private events during your stay

  • Gala dinners on the beach, with lanterns and Bodu Beru drumming
  • Dhoni cruises at sunset for the whole group
  • Sandbank events for smaller groups
  • Private beach barbecues and themed evenings
  • Exclusive use of a restaurant or bar for one evening

Sandbank events for groups

A sandbank is a strip of white sand in the open lagoon, reached by boat. They are small, so sandbank events usually suit groups of up to about 20. Our sandbanks and picnic islands guide explains what a trip is like.

Planning tips

  • Share your group size and the events you have in mind early.
  • Ask about a weather back-up for outdoor events.
  • Check how guests will reach the resort; see our transfers guide.
