Baa Atoll resorts: our hand-picked guide

Compare six hand-picked Baa Atoll resorts by island feel, marine activities and transfer.

Baa Atoll lies north-west of Malé and is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Its reefs and lagoons make it appealing for snorkelling and diving, while its resorts range from quiet, leafy islands to family-friendly stays.

This guide brings together our six hand-picked resorts in Baa Atoll. If you are looking for a resorts list or map, use the resort cards after the guide to explore each island’s page and location.

About Baa Atoll

An atoll is a ring of coral reef around a lagoon, with islands along the reef. Baa Atoll has reefs across the wider biosphere reserve, as well as Hanifaru Bay, a protected area known for feeding manta rays.

The islands have different characters. Some put a house reef at the centre of the stay; others suit lagoon swimming, spa time or a quieter pace.

Getting to Baa Atoll resorts

The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort

Anantara Kihavah Villas, Avani + Fares, Dhigufaru Island Resort, Dreamland - The Unique Sea & Lake Resort/Spa and Royal Island Resort and Spa are reached by seaplane or domestic flight. The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort is reached by seaplane from Malé.

Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so flight times matter when planning your arrival. For more on the options, see our Maldives transfers guide.

The sea and marine life

Baa Atoll’s reefs support coral, reef fish and turtles. Hanifaru Bay draws feeding manta rays and, at times, whale sharks; sightings are never guaranteed. Visits to the bay are guided and snorkelling only. Read our Hanifaru Bay guide for more about the reserve.

For time in the water close to your island, Anantara Kihavah Villas has the Golden Wall house reef, while Royal Island Resort and Spa and The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort also have house reefs. Avani + Fares offers snorkel and dive day trips, Dhigufaru Island Resort offers diving and snorkelling, and Dreamland - The Unique Sea & Lake Resort/Spa has snorkelling access. If a house reef is a priority, see our house reefs guide.

For families and mixed-age groups, Avani + Fares pairs a gentle lagoon with children’s programmes. Anantara Kihavah Villas suits families and couples drawn to pool villas, underwater dining and its house reef.

For a quieter island feel, Dhigufaru Island Resort has a boutique scale and all-inclusive options, while Royal Island Resort and Spa has leafy paths and a classic resort atmosphere. Dreamland - The Unique Sea & Lake Resort/Spa offers a different setting: an ocean lagoon and an inland freshwater lake on the same compact island.

For spa programmes alongside house reef time, consider The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort. If your choice hinges on a meal plan, our all-inclusive guide explains what to compare.
